Hey,

New to this site, but have been on other VW sites. I have 2002 MK4 GTI with a 12v vr6.

After replacing warped rotors, my wheels started squeeling. I took it to a shop after blowing my axle and it went away.

I just replaced both axles with raxles instead of the cheaper axles. Now the front wheel squeeks when I turn right. only right. It corrects when turning left. It drives me NUTS. It is a high pitches squeal. It is also intermittent.

The car feels fine. I dont feel it in the pedal or steering wheel. I have no brake set screws so I thought it was the pad seating after removing the wheel. I engaged a couple of panic stops, and the brakes are DANDY but the sound persists. It does not feel or sound like a wheel bearing.

Can you help?

So back story, I have a 81 Caddy manual diesel. 3 months ago battery caught fire and burned most plastic under the hood. We caught it early and got it put out, so it never got super hot, I'd place an estimate around 300-400 deg F. Didn't even discolor/chip the hood paint All copper wire still intact, and some hoses, but if it was plastic most of it got a little if not all burned/melted.

I have since overhauled everything, and replaced all components, including valve cover gasket (which was only minimally damaged).

I tried cranking it over today, starter engaged, but isn't able to turn the transmission gears (flywheel?). Just makes a clunk sound. I pulled the starter out to make sure it was working, and it engages, disengages and turns, so I don't think it is that.

My 2 current theories are that something fell, into the timing hole which was exposed, and wedged itself, or my main theory is that moisture got inside and rusted the gears tight or something.

I need help I am only a weekend mechanic, and so have limited working knowledge of the starting/transmission system.

Would there be a way to unstick the gears, without pulling the engine + transmission (if that is the problem)? Any other theories? I need the truck to be on the road in 2 days, or I am in deep doggy doo.

Hey guys this is my first post. ive tried to fix this rabbit and followed a bunch of information from this forum but ive decided to just bite the bullet and sign up/ask for help.

I purchased this Rabbit about 9 months ago. It has seen better days but i got a good deal on it. When i bought the car it was DOA the previous owner had several problems with the alt and problems getting it to start on cold days. The Rabbit had been sitting well over a month with a broken alt belt and a dead battery.

The car came with a tow bar so i gladly paid for it and took it home ( paid around $500 for it but the guy was a fried and i knew it had been running before the belt broke ) upon closer inspection the alt bracket was installed improperly and the lower bolt was the wrong size so after replacing the bolt and adding a shim to the bracket the car started and ran perfectly.

After 1 tank of fuel the car started giving me problems starting it in the morning or after it had cooled below 40f so after some research and help from a local diesel tech we had the injection pump rebuilt and the car was back to new again and was hitting the 50mpg mark... for about 3 tanks of fuel...

When we got half through the 3rd tank the car quit wanting to start... it would turn over but very weak so again after wracking my brain i came to the conclusion that the starter motor was weak and needed to be replaced. Bam that fixed it again!

So now the car is starting perfectly every time, like a top, i get to use it as my daily driver when out of nowhere im driving down the road and my dome light starts to blink on and off while the dash lights all flicker.. I removed the bulb to the dome light and tried to ignore the crazy schizophrenia dash lights while i turned around and drove back home. the next day the car if completely normal like nothing happened...

Thats when the odd **** started. i was letting the car warm up when i decided to shut it off and check the oil.... between the time it took me to check the oil and the time i got back in to leave for school something happened and now the car wont do a damn thing with i turn the key over.

No clicks or ticks or current to the starter motor.. nothing.

Ive check the fuse box ( looks new no corrosion) ive checked the grounds ( look clean and are solid) ive checked everything i can think of ( replaced the starter switch and relay) and i cant find a damn thing wrong!

Occasionally when trying to start the car the "shift" indicator light comes on briefly and also on occasion the fan behind the radiator kicks on. Also all the rest of the electric seems to work (headlights, turn signals, CD player, defrost, heater motor) except when i turn the key over.... then they all seem to glitch out.

My dad was messing around in the car and had it "nearly" start when he disconnected the E-brake switch... but when he charged up the battery and tried again it did nothing...

PLEASE HELP ME ISOLATE THE GREMLINS! i love my rabbit and would really like to get it to start so i can justify fixing it up... I had a shop quote me $5000 to completely rewire the car but im just not ready to go that far....
